Neighborhood ARK
(Acts of Random Kindness)

This is  a letter to express the goodness of our neighborhood, especially on
Drake Street.  Most of what we read these days is about things that are
concerns to us all:  burglaries, robberies, etc.  Well, I'm so happy to report a
"happy" event!

This week, after Steven had returned from summer school at Dwyer (I'm sure
you may see the bus either picking him up or dropping him off), I heard a
knock on my front door.  I looked out to see our neighbor, Dino Tomasulo of
Dino's Pressure Cleaning, Inc. (at 6220 Drake), notifying me that he was here
to pressure clean my driveway.  As I had not called him to perform this
service, I was surprised, to say the least.  Having very recently been a
casualty of the very bad economy (lost my part-time job with the School
District, so I guess I'm officially "retired" now!),  I had not placed a driveway
cleaning at the top of my list of things to do, although it was sorely needed!

This very kind man proceeded to turn my driveway into a beautifully, clean
area.  He even did the siding (at no charge)!  My house is gleaming!  Dino has
always been very kind to Steven, always stopping  on his way up or down the
street to say "hi" to him if we're outside and asking about his general welfare.
Caring for a physically-challenged child can be challenging, to say the least,
and it is always so good to see Steven smile after Dino has stopped his truck
to give him greetings!  I know Steven feels recognized and appreciated as all
of us want to feel.

I'm so very overwhelmed at this kindness and hope I can "pass it forward"
somehow.  It's such a good feeling to know that caring people like Dino are
alive and well in our world!  We should institute a "pass it forward" campaign
in our neighborhood to let others experience this wonderful feeling I am
experiencing.
