E-mail received from concerned neighbors:
People who own small pets should be aware that the red-tailed hawks seen flying over the golf course at
Abacoa have been seen recently perching on our fences and light posts in the Heights.  We own two small
dogs and because we have an enclosed fence, we allow them to go outside alone for short intervals. We were
terrified last week to see a hawk perched on our fence watching them. We tried to scare it away, but it didn't
move.

This past weekend, one swooped down and grabbed a bird just five feet away from us. It's sad that all of the
development in the area has taken away a large portion of their habitat and food supply, but we have
decided to keep our pets on a short leash from now on.
The Red-tailed Hawk is a most opportunistic hunter. Its diet is varied, but there is
conclusive evidence now that 85 to 90 % is composed of small rodents, with rabbits,
snakes and lizards included. Where there are large numbers of pheasant, these become
the food of choice in spring and summer. Like all hawks, its talons are its main weapons.

Debris Dumping On Right-Of-Ways and Canals

Debris Dumping On Right-Of-Ways and Canals

We have a serious problem with some residents trimming their plants and trees and dumping the debris and landscape materials on top of the drains off of Heights Blvd and Marian.  It is not only unsightly, it also creates many health and safety hazards and is not fair to all the other neighbors that take the time to properly dispose of their debris.   Debris in the canal blocks the flow of drainage and can create a flood hazard in the event of heavy rains.

We are also having the same problem with people putting their yard trimmings and debris into the canals.  Doing so increases maintenance for The North Palm Beach Water District which is funded by OUR tax dollars. Causing the district additional work could cost us ALL money in the end.

If you are guilty of having done this, we ask that you refrain from any further dumping in the future. If you know who is doing this- please ask them to stop or call code enforcement immediately- Remember it’s YOUR TAX DOLLARS!

We are ready for our next step on the Entryway Sign.  We need:

230 Common Block (approx. $1.35 ea.)
20 Half High Block (approx. $1.65 ea.)

If you:

    1.  Know a contractor who is willing to work with us on price, or would like to make a donation ...
    2.  Would like to make a cash donation specifically toward the block ... or
    3.  Have extra of either of those types of block left over from a project ...

... please contact Eugene Wise at 662-1446.

Thank you.
