“Friends Of
The Heights-
March 8, 2007”
March 8th Meeting recaps:
Homeowners enjoyed an update from Brenda Arnold
with the Riverwalk project. She shared with those
present the upcoming plans for expansion as well as completed projects to date.
She stressed that while events are being held they are taking it slowly being
careful to not try and overdo things at this time. She also helped to elevate
concerns over possible tax increases stating that there was a specific taxing
district surrounding this area allowing for growth
plans to move forward. Next public event is April 21st, she strongly
encouraged everyone to come on out and check things out. Riverwalk
is at the intersection on Indiantown
Road and US 1, on the south side under the
drawbridge of Indiantown road. Parking available by the Burt Reynolds
museum.
Dean
Fowler with Code Enforcement stated
that there were only 42 violations in February. She asked us again to have our neighbors
call or e-mail her with any issues or concerns
regarding code enforcement. Phone 746-5134 or e-mail: dfowler@jupiter.fl.us.
Chief Kitzerow,
Lieutenant Barrett and Officer
Bernstein were present and again
reminded us that most (not all) crimes taking place are “Crimes of Opportunity”. This is a crime that might have been
prevented if the resident had done one of the following:
1.
Lock your vehicles anytime they are left unattended.
2.
Remove your garage door openers from your car each time
you go into your home.
3.
Do Not leave your keys or any
valuables in plain sight in your vehicle.
4.
Lock your doors on your home, including the door
leading into your house from your garage.
5.
Do Not leave your garage door
open unless you are in it or in your driveway.
6.
Make sure you don’t leave your wallet, purse,
keys out in front of windows. The
temptation is too great for some would be criminals.
Please beware of
anyone or any vehicle that seems out of place and call the non-emergency Police
Department number and report it immediately, not later. That
number is 746-6201. This could
help prevent a crime against yourself or one of our neighbors, after all no one
knows our neighborhood better then we do. The Chief said “Don’t think of it
as a waste of our time! We
don’t! When in doubt, CALL!”
Neighbors were encouraged to look out for each other.
Let’s let the criminals know “You Can’t Get
Away With Crime in The Heights of Jupiter!” As residents we can do
a lot to make this happen. The
first step is to be aware, the second to call if any you see any suspicious
people, groups of people, activities or vehicles. Watch out for your neighbors and ask
them to do the same for you. Help
get crime watch in our neighborhood.
It was noted that The Jupiter Police Department Communities
Activities Unit will gladly come out and check your home for security and let
you know what your weak points of entry are, at no cost to you. If you are interested please contact Kristi Coleman
at 746-6201. They will also help
check on your home while you are away.
They will need to know an emergency contact number, whom if anyone will
be going into your home, what vehicles to expect to see there in your
absence. It is well worth the phone
call to them to have less worry while away from your home and a service that is
provided to our community very happily and at no charge. You can’t beat that deal!
There was concerned expressed over the spotting of a gator
in the canals along the golf course. Some individuals expressed concern over
possible dangers of gators however one individual tried to impress that the
gators are only looking for water. The town made note of it but stressed that
it is a wildlife issue and unless they see it they can’t do anything.
Phase II Beautification is proceeding nicely. Permit has been received and plans to
move forward should start the first part of April.
The committee is still in need of volunteers and donations of material and
money to help make this happen. Please email anyone of the board members if you
are able to help out.
Our next
“Friends of the Heights” Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April
12th at 7:00pm. It will be held at the Jupiter Town Hall.
(Please check our website or contact a member of our board if you need
directions.)
As always please feel free to contact any of our board
members with your concerns, questions or suggestions.
