Letters To The Editor~

~Letters To The Editor~

Katie,

Thanks for your column that addressed Barking Dogs. Either these people live on the same street we do or the problem is ramped throughout the neighborhood. If you could do anything it would help. For example, today is a holiday, and the dog was barking from 6:00 AM on- and the owners were home.  Ugh!

Thanks for your help-

Looking for a chance to sleep in!

Dear Looking For-

While I don’t think barking dogs are an uncontrollable problem within the neighborhood they are not isolated either. Clearly there is more than one street dealing with this problem. I have forwarded your concerns to both our town representative as well as code enforcement, they will look into it and see how this ongoing problem can be resolved.  In the mean time if the problem persist, especially at unreasonable hours call the police department’s non emergency number 746-6201 and ask that they look into it. For the record this was discussed at March’s monthly meeting- we strongly encourage you to join us next month so you can express first hand the problems you are having.

Katie,

We live on Barbara St and approximately one month ago someone put a key ring with 6 keys on the chain, in our mailbox. One is a Ford auto key with 5 other keys. If you could help let others know in case this is their set I would appreciate it.

Kelly and Michael

Dear Kelly and Michael,

Thanks for your alert. We have put the notice up on the neighborhood web site. Hopefully the rightful owner will be found- we appreciate your taking the time to call this to our attention.

Well done with the Web site!

Thanks Kelly,

We have worked very hard to develop a web site that paralleled the publication of the Heights Paper and benefited the neighborhood. We are glad to hear our efforts are appreciated. Please let others know that we have a strong web site and it is still growing. Please continue to visit us on the web at www.heightsofjupiter.com.

Thanks again for your words of encouragement and your support

Katie-

On March 4, I was walking my 8 year old precious yellow lab and was on the left side of the road. The dog was on the edge of the grass and street; I had my back to it, as I was talking to my next door neighbors. Out of no where a small tan SUV was driving erratically about 45 to 50 miles an hour swerved around me, was driving on the left side of the road and ran over my dog. There were two kids on bikes who had to pull to the side as to not get hit also. The car did no stop but picked up speed and drove even faster out of the neighborhood. My neighbors and I were in such shock we were unable to get much of a description, plates, etc.  My 5 year old daughter was inconsolable as there was so much blood coming from my dog’s mouth as well as outside injuries. The police were unable to find the individual who did this. I want the Heights residents to know that the police stressed how important it is to report any vehicle who is suspicious, driving over the speed limit, and that we as tax payers have a right to petition for speed bumps on every street. My dog is recovering and will be fine. The emergency vet, as well as our own vet said it was a miracle she lived.  We all know how many children live in our lovely neighborhood. What was a really terrible incident could have been a horrible tragedy. That easily could have been a dead child. The police were great and could not stress enough how important it is to report any suspicious activity, even if it is a neighbor who drives too fast. Too the person who did this, if you are a heights resident or this message gets to you, your life may be out of control, get help its out there, the consequences only get worse.  I wish you peace and serenity.

Tracey, Pompano St.

Tracy,

I am so sorry to hear about your dog but certainly relived to hear, that in the end, the dog will be OK. However, the actions that caused this accident are inexcusable!! And certainly the potential risk it presented to children within our neighborhood must be considered. As you mentioned the police can't stress enough the importance of our calling anytime. In fact, at the last meeting, they went as far as stating they are open 24 hours a day- 7 days a week-- we can not waste their time!

It is unfortunate that you were not able to obtain more information to assist the police in this investigation. Hopefully someone will recognize this vehicle and the guilty party will be caught-  BEFORE an even great accident should occur!!

Thanks again for calling this to our attention- we wish you and your family all the best as your dog continues to heal. We also invite you to come out to the next meeting April 12th -- decisions such as speed bumps are accomplished through our monthly meetings.

Katie,

We have a situation that we would like your help on. We enjoy our nightly walks through the neighborhood however we’ve become concerned about the amount of trash we are seeing along Marrian Ave. In some parts it looks more like the “Hood” than the Heights! We regularly pick up trash; however we need to find a way to stop those responsible for this. We are glad to see a neighborhood cleanup and are happy to participate in it- just let us know what we can do to help. We are also concerned about the number of vehicles parking along the swales of Marrian, particularly overnight. It is difficult to see around them and pose a traffic hazard in an already dark neighborhood. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

J.S.

Dear JS-

Thanks for your willingness to be a part of the clean up- not just on a day designated to do so but everyday as you take your walks. The need for more concerned citizens is hugh and only by those willing to step up to bat (such as yourself) can we possibly make a difference. The dumping of trash – be it in our swales or in our canals- continues to be an ongoing problem. The traffic hazard you mention has also been discussed at great length. For more specific information on code regulations please contact Dean Fowler at code enforcement- she is glad to help. If however the vehicles are creating a traffic hazard please call the Jupiter Police non emergency number. We encourage you to attend future Heights meetings so you may join us in discussions on these ongoing issues.

Thanks again for calling these concerns to our attention.
