Sorrows of the World
By John Orbigoso age 14
Be silent for one minute and ponder this well. Look around the world, to the highest peaks and lowest seas. Picture in your mind the world stretched wide before you like a book waiting to be read. Now tell yourself what you see going on throughout the world. What I see is a lamentable sorrow; brethren killing brethren and arguments countless. We have done a very pitiful and pathetic job of taking care of our only world. Instead of unifying and enjoying each other’s company we instead raise arms against them. Our world is full of tribulations and wars, add to that harmful diseases roam unwatched killing thousands.
We need to consider the very
unfortunate children all over, especially in
Keep in mind that this is the world today. Imagine now, how the world was back when. Consider all the history lessons and books from the past, try to form a vague picture in your mind. Not much different then, was it? Throughout history, the land has been drenched with blood from the slain in despicable wars. Political leaders of the past fought each other for more power, more land, and more riches---- the same as today. We delude ourselves that we have improved that we have evolved from our savage, barbaric forms to the supreme chain of evolution we are today. Who are we fooling? This is a whole load of rubbish if you ask me. True we did improve; our way of life, our technologies but what really improved is what we use to fight with each other. We were the same people then as we are now, just with better manners and more eloquent, albeit with deadlier weapons. Throughout history necessity has fueled inventions. It is said that a lot of technologies are created during a period of war. We constantly create weapons to “protect” ourselves but what would we need protection from if we were all unified?
The main reason for our arguments is the differences that exist. These differences are a wall that keeps us from coming together, from being unified. Often these differences take the form of personal beliefs, race, and gender. Religion, yet another factor, is often one of the main walls that separate us. Don’t take me wrong, religion is wonderful and in no way do I find it detrimental. What I’m insinuating however is that though our religions may be different, we need to find some common ground, a certain concept in our religion that we can all agree on. The “ignorance is bliss” thing is something I really don’t agree with. If we know more about other people, less prejudice may occur. Humans are afraid of what they don’t understand and later tend to hate it. We need to be more culturally sensitive and accepting. Taking the initiative to unify is the first step for a better tomorrow.
If we would put forth more effort in all possible ways for unification, the world of tomorrow would just be a utopia. The future could be bright where people would look back to our time and have a hard time imagining that such horrors once transpired. Children would no longer suffer and their futures would be bright. Brethren helping brethren, instead of killing one another. Diseases would be cured quickly and peace would finally be a reality. This is the kind of future I look forward to. Where hopefully wars are nonexistent and peace endures. Then, and only then, can we truly say we have evolved!

delves in the disunity of the human race, but most importantly about the
