Letters To The Editor~

~Letters To The Editor~

Katie,

Could you please tell me on how to be a part of the Heights Service Directory? We are a small business and we live in the heights. Our company name is C & D Tree Division, trimming, planting and removal of trees.

Thank you very much,

Connie VanVekoven

Dear Connie-

Thanks for your interest in our Heights Service Directory. Only by working together can we possibly make a difference. I have forwarded our terms and pricing to your email account and I trust you will see that we have made every effort to provide affordable advertising, on our Heights Page,  to our fellow Heights residents. It is our belief that we should always look first to those around us- neighbors helping neighbors when needing help... With all the business owners in the Heights—wouldn’t it be wonderful if we filled two or even three pages of Service Listings?

Katie

Editors Note- Thanks to C&D Tree Division for purchasing a business card ad for one year. We wish them all the best as they continue to grow their business, while helping neighbors with their trees.

Katie,

People who own small pets should be aware that the red-tailed hawks seen flying over the golf course at Abacoa have been seen recently perching on our fences and light posts in the Heights.  We own two small dogs and because we have an enclosed fence, we allow them to go outside alone for short intervals. We were terrified last week to see a hawk perched on our fence watching them. We tried to scare it away, but it didn't move.  This past weekend, one swooped down and grabbed a bird just five feet away from us. It's sad that all of the development in the area has taken away a large portion of their habitat and food supply, but we have decided to keep our pets on a short leash from now on.

Kelly and Michael

Dear Kelly and Michael,

Thanks for your words of warning. We have put the alert up on the neighborhood web site. Hopefully by alerting fellow neighbors a loyal pet or incident young child will not be harmed. Thanks again for taking the time to share these concerns with others.

Katie,

We live on Garret St and have great concerns about the drainage canal. There is a large pile of dirt on the bank and the two houses on either side are for sale. Certainly this mess is not appealing to potential buyers nor to those of us that plan on staying here. If that wasn’t bad enough they did some work on the opposite side of the canal and left a big hump of grass instead of leveling it off even with the surrounding area. Shouldn’t whoever maintains these canals have to do a better job in the way they do things? Please help!

Terry

Dear Terry,

The North Palm Beach Water Control District is responsible for maintaining the canals. Certainly it is fair to assume that that means the job would be completed in a satisfactory manner. If they have failed to do so I suggest you call Lynn McCullough or one of the other board members. Their contact information can be found at the bottom of the Water Control Meeting Notes in this issue.

Best of luck and please let us know how things go.

Katie-

We love this neighborhood but we have a problem with a neighbor that quite honestly is driving us away. Our neighbor has a dog that barks Non Stop- I’m not kidding Non Stop- I think the dog even barks in his sleep, it’s THAT bad. Anyway we have tried on several occasions to ask the owner to please do something to quite the dog and guess what- they don’t care, it’s not bothering them!! I don’t want to move but frankly I can’t take it anymore and there seems to be no relief in sight. What am I supposed to do???

Feeling forced out of my home by a barking dog!

Dear Feeling Forced-

You have a right to enjoy a tranquil life style- no way should the dog or the inconsiderate homeowner force you into a move that you don’t want to make. Sadly however you are not alone. This seems to be a hot topic this month as I have received several different dog related emails in just the last week-----  from residents on at least three different streets!! Clearly there is a problem that needs to be addressed. I have forwarded request to town representatives and will let you know when I hear back. In the meantime check out this month’s editorial where this subject was discussed and code requirements are reviewed.

Best of luck to you- please do take appropriate actions---- but don’t move!!.

Katie

Katie,

I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy reading your paper each month. Thank you for all you do to make this a better community. My question is, what can I do to help and how does one get nominated to be a profile story?

Thanks again for making a difference.

Ellen R.

Dear Ellen-

Thank you for your kind words- it is nice to know that people actually read my ramblings and that it is a making a difference. As far as the profile- there is no formal nomination process. We are happy to profile anyone that has a story to share. Profiles are a wonderful way to meet our neighbors on a more personal basis. You never know how much you might have in common with an individual until you take the time to learn a little more about them. That said I would love to include you in an upcoming profile. I have emailed you some generic questions. Please look them over and answer to the best of your ability. Feel free to elaborate and return them to me as soon as possible. Who knows you might just be next month’s interview!!  I look forward to hearing more about you and sharing your story with our neighbors.

Katie

Note from the editor- We welcome your questions and comment. Should you have an issue that you would like addressed, just send your Letter to the Editor to NPBHeights@bellsouth.net. We will try and print as many as possible.
