From the Desk of Your Chairperson
Dear Neighbors;
March is here, the month of anything green and gold,
shamrocks, good luck, and of course blarney. “Blarney”-
the ability to influence and coax with
fair words and soft speech without offending others. Wouldn’t most of
us like to have a gift like that? I
know I would! Think about it- the ability to help enlighten some of our
neighbor’s views on a variety of subjects including that of renters. Among the many topics discussed at January’s
“Friends of The Heights” meeting was the fact that some of our
homeowners do not like having renters as neighbors. Needless to say I was rather surprised
to hear this. In my thinking, both as a homeowner and as a Realtor, I would
rather have a renter occupying a home any day than to have it stand vacant.
Vacant homes bring with them an assortment of issues. Security issues top that
list as they are more prone to vandalism then an occupied home would be. There
is also the obvious question of upkeep and the absentee owners’ ability
to maintain the property.
Personally I am happy to have a renter as one of our neighbors because
they take as much pride in their “home” and yard as we do ours. To be honest, if they can afford the
cost of renting in our neighborhood, they are probably more finically secure
then most of us homeowners that have been here since 2000 or earlier. If that wasn’t bad enough I was
informed that the neighborhood is often referred to as two parts, the front
part and the back part. I
don’t know about the rest of you but I can say with definite certainty
that this is one neighborhood and we as residents, not
homeowners or renters have the responsibility and obligation to nurture
and develop that, if we want to continue to maintain a family neighborhood that
cares for its own. Our philosophy
of “Neighbors working with neighbors to achieve a vision” takes every
resident. As our vision
statement clearly states “Neighbor
working with Neighbor to enhance and
maintain a community of neighbors working with neighbors who are united in
creating a beautiful, safe and friendly environment where families take pride
in where they live”
We are so blessed to have the quality neighborhood that we have without
the burden of a Home Owners Association, but with that comes responsibility. If
we as neighbors do not get involved in shaping what is to be the future of our
neighborhood- we have nothing. Our
neighborhood is known as the place to go for the best candy at Halloween and
the best decorations and light displays at Christmas time, the best parties,
etc. We are a community others desire to live in. We can’t encourage and
welcome other communities to visit our family orientated neighborhood and then
refuse to welcome and embrace a neighbor just because they rent instead of
own? Let’s not forget we all
live in the same neighborhood and we are ALL
equal residents of The Heights of Jupiter!
On other news we would like to congratulate our Treasurer, Shannon Krause and our
Photographer, Matt
Krause on the birth of their first
baby. Her name is Arielle Nysa,
born January 29th at 5:09pm. She weighted in at 6lbs 7ozs and was
19inches long. “Congratulations Mommy & Daddy”.
I want to personally thank everyone that attended our
meeting on Thursday, February 8th. We appreciate your taking the time out
of your busy schedules to help us, help our community. As always we need more
neighbors to get involved in our “Friends of The Heights” meetings
and our Water District meetings. As
our editor, Katie
Shepherd is famous for saying,
“Together We Are Strong”, so please join us and help us become
stronger with your ideas and input.
Just a reminder: We have two offices coming up for election at our April 12th
meeting. The offices are for
Chairperson and Secretary.
If you would like to run for one of these positions please submit an
e-mail with your name, phone number and what position you would like to run for
and then be sure and attend our meeting on April 12th to vote. Emails can be sent to any of the board
member below.
Plan now to attend the Holiday
Egg Hunt to be held Saturday April 7th in the park- check out
the notice in this month’s paper for all the exciting details. If you
would like to help with this event please contact our activities director at
the email below. Our picnic in the park has been scheduled for Saturday May 19th, 2007. It will start at 12 Noon.
We would like to invite neighborhood residences that have a business and/or
hobby and would like to set up a booth promoting their talents, to contact
Shannon ASAP. The cost per booth is $25.00 and is yet another great way to gain
exposure. We would like to ensure
the picnics success by asking every business that participates to sponsor a
game with prizes for the kids.
Please contact Shannon
Krause for sign up and information.
We are still looking for volunteers to help organize the picnic? Please respond to our Activities
Director, Wilmet Lanier
wilmet_lanier@yahoo.com with your ideas via
E-mail or call any one of the board members. Don’t forget to check out the
Activities Calendar in the paper or our website, for additional Heights
activities planned for the near future.
ATTENTION STUDENTS: If you are in need of community
service hours for school please don’t hesitate to contact me. We have many ways that you can earn your
needed service hours while enjoying a fun time in the process. Help is needed now to pass out brochures
for our ground breaking ceremony on our entry way sign. If you can help with this task or are
interested in other opportunities, please call me.
Finally, in a community as large as ours I’m surprised
that we don’t have more fields covered in our “Working Together,
The Heights in Partnership” Advertising page. It’s hard to believe that many fields
of service have gone untapped. I don’t see any ads for fields such as ---Sewing/Alterations,
Catering, Signs, Spa’s, Hair Salon’s, Music lessons, Photographer, Avon or Mary Kay,
Mechanic, Handy Man, Interior Decorator, Home Inspections, Surveys, Auto
Repair, Window Repair—and the list keeps going. If you live in The Heights and work for
or have a business that provides such services, please sign up for the
advertising in our “North Palm Beach Heights” newspaper. The purpose is for Heights residents to
be able to affordably advertise their business and to encourage Heights
residents to use Heights owned businesses.
Let’s support our neighbors!
By advertising in the paper you will also be added to our new website—at
NO additional charge. If you purchase
a business card ad in the paper you will receive a link on the business
directory of our website. When you or a potential customer clicks on the card
it will take you to that business website.
It’s a very nice added bonus for anyone that advertises and more
value for your money than you will find anywhere!! While the purpose is for
Heights to support Heights – keep in mind that our paper is read in
communities throughout Jupiter.
As always please feel free to contact any of our board
members with your concerns, questions or suggestions.
